Death Date: 001 & 002
Microstories are stories that are 300 words or less. These are two microstories from my new Death Date series about the way a group of people live their lives as they prepare for their death.
Death Date 001
3 best friends sit around the table.
What do you think about more…what you are leaving behind or what awaits you ahead?
An hour ago, they got high as they finished the leftovers.
The last time for 1 of them.
The 2 who remain will recall different moments of awareness of what was happening.
As usual the deep conversations around loving each other.
And where the country is heading, and the world.
How did we get here and would we survive or escape?
Perry is approaching the age their mom was when she died.
Been thinking about this for a while.
Death Date 002
I don’t have any special words, just the ones we’ve always said to each other.
Thank you.
I’m sorry.
Please forgive me.
I love you.
There are no greater words than those we have always had.
Did we say them enough?
What did you feel?
I saw you true. Grateful you saw me so fully.
We did our best. We learned a lot. We grew.
We had fun and were so blessed.
I feel complete and ready now.
Words fail in the end. They did their work.
Now I just want to be silent and feel you.
Remember how we felt more than what I said.
Ironic coming from a writer.
Not ironic coming from a lover.
