My Best Friend Is A White Jewish Priestess And Today Is Her Birthday
I am a Black girl who has a white Jewish best friend, and this is for her. She's taking an IG break right now so this is how I decided to celebrate her, with some words from a few of her friends.
Hey P,
Today is your birthday.
If we were best friends at age 8, I would hope that our moms would let us to have a slumber party together tonight.
If we were best friends at age 16, I’d like to think that we would be together on this night, outside in the woods somewhere maybe...
What would we be smoking? Weed? (probably)
Marlboro Menthols? (gross, why did we do that?)
Listening to our favorite 90s Hip Hop (no doubt)
Drinking Zimas (stop! LOL)
Wearing flannel of course (no doubt)
Well, we've missed both of our birthdays for many years
So I figure we have some making up to do
Now that we're best friends at our ages of 46
Since Snoop won't let me come there
For our birthdays this year, I want you to fly here to me in Costa Rica
So we can have that sleepover that we owe each other
Let's hug some trees and do some of your witchy Kohenet rituals here at Casita Colibri
In my enchanted forest with my cats and cows
And let's drink wine and smoke weed and dance and howl under the moon
And let's drive up the mountains to the hot springs
And no disrespect to TLC, cuz we love them and all,
But let's go chase some waterfalls
And let's spend a few days on the beach in Jaco
So I can show you how holy it is when the people come to the shore at sunset
And how everyone stands in silence and awe
With nothing but the sounds of the waves and our synchronized breathing
As we watch the sun take her older than days dip below the horizon
Until returning to us again and again
The next morning, the superior time of day,
Our favorite time of day
Let's walk miles together on these Tico streets
And let's laugh and cry and pray and curse
At how wild all the things are
But I really just want to hold your hand and hug you hard and never let go

More like Wilson Phillips hold on for one more day)
I want to hold your precious face in my hands
And look you in your eyes
And tell you that I'm so damn happy that your little face was born
And that you are in my life now
And that you are my best friend
